Charges were officially filed against a South Jordan man accused of trying to kill a cop.
Court records said body camera footage captures the moments 29-year-old Malui Salesi Vehikite fired at a South Jordan officer while inside a home at 10424 South Trail Court.
The unnamed police officer was shot in the leg and severed his femoral artery.
Prosecutors said the officer could have died if not for the quick treatment he received.
The incident happened on Nov. 26, when police went to the South Jordan home to question Vehikite about a stolen car. He also had warrants for his arrest.
Court records showed that someone at the home let police in to look for Vehikite.
While searching the basement, officers heard someone say "don't" or "no" and then saw Vehikite with a gun walking backwards down a hallway
Prosecutors said body camera footage "clearly shows" Vehikite pointing his gun at and shooting the officer — who returned fire.
During the search of the house after the shooting, investigators found guns, prescription pills, weed, several drivers licenses and credit cards in different names.
Vehikite was charged with attempted aggravated murder, assault, and two weapons charges.
