Woman dies after driving through red light in N.J. crash, police say

A woman died Monday morning in Toms River after she drove through a red light and collided with another car, investigators said.

Crystal Calpin, 29, of Toms River was driving west on Route 37 shortly before 9 a.m. when she failed to stop at the red light where the highway intersects Oak Ridge Parkway, according to a release from the Toms River Police Department. Calpin drove through the intersection at a high rate of speed and collided with a car traveling south on Oak Ridge Parkway, police said.

She was rushed to nearby Community Medical Center where she died from her injuries, officials said. The two occupants of the other car were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City where they were listed in critical condition, police said.

The crash remained under investigation Monday night by the Toms River Police Traffic Safety Unit.
