Report: Former Penn State DC Bob Shoop Hired at South Florida

27 September 2014: Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop. The Northwestern Wildcats defeated the The Penn State Nittany Lions 29-6 at Beaver Stadium in State College, PA.

Former Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop is reportedly moving once again.

Shoop, who ran Penn State’s defense in 2014 and 2015 and previously worked under James Franklin as Vanderbilt’s defensive coordinator from 2011-13, has coached at four schools since leaving Happy Valley, and if reports are accurate, South Florida would be the fifth.

Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports tweeted the news Monday afternoon, and a source has since confirmed the report with Bulls247. Shoop most recently worked at the University of Miami as a defensive analyst.

Since leaving Penn State, Shoop has been at Tennessee, Mississippi State, Michigan, and Miami. South Florida will be his first defensive coordinator job since 2019 when he was at Mississippi State.
