The Los Angeles Lakers continue to struggle this 2021-22 season, which has raised questions whether Frank Vogel and Co. should make some roster changes. LeBron James, however, seem confident about the team they currently have.
When asked whether he knows yet if it’s time to make some drastic roster moves, LeBron claimed he doesn't think they need to do such move. The Lakers forward also highlighted that what they need is more repetitions together to develop that chemistry and get to know how to play alongside each other.
For him, making a change now could affect all the efforts and progress they have made so far this 2021-22.
“It’s impossible for me to say ‘OK, when do we get to a point where we need to make a change?' And I don’t think we even need to do that. I love every guy that’s in this locker room and I believe in what we’re capable of doing,” James said, per Michael Corvo of ClutchPoints.
“When we get enough game reps and enough logged minutes, we’ve had guys in and out and especially me. I can’t even say how I feel at this point because I’ve been in the lineup half of games. I love what Rob and coach and the front office did to assemble this team, and we look forward to the journey ahead of us.”
The Lakers are 12-12 on the season, putting them at eighth place in the tough Western Conference. They have won three of their last five games, but the Purple and Gold haven't really had a signature win yet. Most of their wins came from non-playoff contenders, all while having a difficult time against the other top teams in the league.
Injuries to LeBron James, as well as his recent COVID-19 debacle, has been a huge blow to the team. Unfortunately, the Lakers were also unable to step up in the absence of the King.
Given how the LA franchise has played through 24 games, it's not surprising that some fans are hoping that Rob Pelinka and the front office make some roster tweaks sooner rather than later. After all, this season is unarguably a “championship-or-bust” year, especially after they traded for Russell Westbrook in the offseason to form their very own Big 3.
LeBron is clearly not losing hope on the roster that the Lakers have built. Nonetheless, if they continue to have a hard time stringing wins together and compete on a regular basis, it won't be surprising to see them pull the trigger on some trades or acquisitions.
