Man turns himself in after striking teen in hit-and-run crash, police say

A man turned himself in Monday after he seriously injured a teen in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning in Hamilton, police said.

Calvin Janicsek, 22, of Willingboro contacted the Hamilton Police Department in Mercer County and told them he was the driver of the vehicle that the teen and turned himself in around 9 a.m., according to a release from the department.

Investigators then charged Janicsek with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury and endangering an injured victim, the department said.

On Sunday at about 2:15 a.m., the teen — identified only as a Hamilton resident — was on foot westbound on Route 33 near Weston Avenue when a car that was also traveling west on the highway struck him and then fled, police said.

The 17-year-old suffered serious injuries, authorities said, and was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. Police did not have an update on his condition Monday afternoon.

The crash remained under investigation and any witnesses were asked to contact the Hamilton Police Traffic Unit at 609-581-4000.
