Students and staff from Holy Guardian Angels Regional School in Muhlenberg Township collected more than 160 coats for a winter service project.

The coats will be donated to Opportunity House in Reading, said Megan McGrath Bermudez, the school’s development director.

“We are about 313 students strong,” McGrath Bermudez said. “We’re not a very big place or community, but we try to make a big impact in the community we live in.”

The school also received a $500 grant from the Allentown Diocese to help purchase new coats.

The students collected coats for babies up to adults.

The school also holds a fall animal food drive, a sock drive to help the homeless and a food collection for the St. Joseph’s food bank, McGrath Bermudez said.
