Ben Affleck, George Clooney movie shot in Massachusetts towns about to hit big screen
A new movie staring Ben Affleck and directed by George Clooney that featured filming locations in several Massachusetts cities and towns is about to hit the big screen. Amazon's "The Tender Bar" will open in movie theaters on Friday, December 17 and be available for streaming on Amazon Prime in early January. Several of the scenes were shot in Beverly, Watertown and Ipswich where Affleck and Clooney spent weeks. Clooney was spotted graciously spending time with local residents during the shoot. Monday morning on Good Morning America, the two, along with other cast members talked about the flick which focuses on Affleck’s character who offers up life lessons to his young nephew. Playing a bartender not a complete stretch for the Cambridge native. "My dad was a well-read guy, and there are a lot of similarities for me personally, and I spent a lot of my childhood meeting my father in a bar," Affleck said. This is not the first Clooney-Affleck collaboration. Nine years ago, the duo teamed up to win an Oscar with the movie Argo. "Ben is somebody I greatly admire," Clooney said. "We work in kind of the same way."Affleck said being a father to a son in real life helped him connect in this role."It’s incredibly meaningful to me," Affleck said. "If somebody steps up and fills that role, it's a lovely, meaningful -- the most meaningful thing you can do.""The discourse in the country is really rough. Everybody's angry, and this is a sweet film," Clooney said. "This is a film about kindness and love and, you know, it felt like it was a good time to do that."
