On Monday, The Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives and Innovation J. Michael Haynie sent a letter to Syracuse University staff and students announcing that eligible students, faculty, and staff who access any Syracuse University campus locations will be required to receive a booster shot before the start of the Spring semester, or as soon as they are eligible.
The mandate includes Washington D.C., New York City, Los Angeles, and all study abroad locations.
This announcement comes as the White House recently announced that federal contractors must comply with COVID-19 safety guidelines by the Safer Federal Workforce Task Force (SFWTF).
Syracuse University is a federal contractor and must comply with the vaccination and verification requirements by January 18, 2022.
Once students receive their booster, they can upload their proof of vaccination through the student Patient Portal.
According to Haynie, verification requirements for faculty and staff are currently being updated due to the recent change in federal guidance, but the University will require that all faculty and staff submit proof of vaccine status.
Haynie says Human Resources is partnering with other University offices to establish a process and procedure to accept and review proof of vaccine status or medical and religious exemption status from employees.
The process will include verification of a vaccine booster dose for those who are eligible.
According to Haynie, all students including undergraduate, graduate, and law students will be required to participate in on-campus COVID-19 testing when they return in January regardless of their vaccination status.
The following groups will be tested:
- Resident advisors must get tested no later than January 10
- Orientation Leaders must get tested no later than January 13
- All students living on campus must get tested no later than January 17
- All students living off-campus must get tested no later than January 21
Arrival testing will be held at the stadium and Kimmel Hall. Find more information on the updated mandate HERE.
