Celtic are expected to have an exciting January transfer window this time around. They made significant additions to their squad in the summer but it is safe to say that they still need to sign more players if they are to put up a sustainable title challenge. The depth at the club is not great right now and as a result, injuries could very easily derail their momentum. Also, it gives Ange Postecoglou very little scope to rotate and rest players.

Thus, January is a great opportunity for Celtic to strengthen their squad. Hopefully they can navigate through the month of December before that. We have already seen Jota, Anthony Ralston, Stephen Welsh and James Forrest pick up injuries over the past couple of games and we are just a week into the month.

One player that the club have been heavily linked with a move for is Reo Hatate. The Kawasaki Frontale star has been a standout performer in the J1 League for some time and appears to be on Celtic’s radar. And they appear to have received a transfer boost in this regard.

As reported by Sky Sports, Hatate is due to meet Kawasaki Frontale club chiefs this week to express his desire to join Celtic next month.

Celtic handed major boost in Hatate transfer race

The situation surrounding Hatate is interesting. His current deal with Kawasaki Frontale is believed to be running out at the end of January.

But it looks like Celtic might be looking to get him out of the final few weeks of his contract so that he can join the club’s winter training camp and get accustomed with his new team. The Japanese football season ends before Christmas.

There are some rumours suggesting that Celtic might need to shell out a decent transfer fee to bring Hatate in earlier than the end of his contract, even though it runs out in a few weeks.
