Last October, Star Trek legend William Shatner made history as the oldest person ever to fly to space at the age of 90 when he boarded a Blue Origin spaceflight, along with three others, that lasted around 10 minutes. It was a much-celebrated achievement since the actor has been known for playing Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek and it was surreal to see that he was able to actually go to space for real.
Now, we can relieve and witness Shatner's historic journey again as Prime Video has announced that they are going to release a one-hour documentary special titled Shatner in Space which details the events before, during, and after Shatner’s historic spaceflight and the growing friendship between the Star Trek legend and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, whose dreams of space travel was inspired by the original Star Trek series.
“My time in space was the most profound experience I could have ever imagined,” Shatner said in a statement. “This special documenting my journey gives a dramatic view of that experience, and my hope is that it inspires the world to see we must go to space to save Earth.”
There's no doubt that Shatner's recent space trip was truly inspiring. It's great that there's going to be a documentary where we can see the events unfold and see it from the perspective of the actor, whose portrayal of Captain Kirk inspired a lot of people to be involved in aeronautics and space research. His post-trip conversation with Bezos where he described the overview effect that he experienced became viral and it's nice that we will be able to see more of that in the documentary.

Shatner is Space is set to premiere on Prime Video on Wednesday, December 15 in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. It will be available in other territories in early 2022.
