CAMINO, Calif. (KTXL) — A pursuit spanning four counties ended on eastbound Highway 50 near Camino, prompting a closure of the highway Monday morning as an hourslong standoff unfolded.

The Solano County Sheriff’s Office said the pursuit began just before 5 a.m. when deputies observed the driver of a Ford F-150 “acting erratically.”

The chase lasted about an hour, officials said. The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit near Highway 50 and Interstate 80.

The Solano County Sheriff’s Office did not report any injuries during their involvement with the pursuit.

An armored SWAT vehicle arrived at the El Dorado County scene where the chase ended around 9:30 a.m. It pulled up next to the pickup truck and tried to get the driver to surrender.

 After about an hour, a K9 was released and armed law enforcement forced their way into the truck by breaking the driver’s side window.

The driver was then detained on the ground, ending a three-hour standoff.

The Solano County Sheriff’s Office later identified the suspect as 52-year-old Matthew Ramos of Dixon.

The standoff impacted Highway 50 and the community of Camino by forcing first responders to shut down roads and local school officials to cancel classes.

Hallways and classrooms typically filled with students sat empty Monday at the Camino School, which sits just a few hundred yards from where the pursuit came to an end.

The police activity in the area prompted the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office to drop by the K-8 school to advise the superintendent to cancel classes for the day.

In a statement, the Camino Union School District superintendent confirmed they called off all classes and sports practices for the day and sent back most busses before they even arrived on campus.
