Snug fit, ordering a half-size up is recommended

The Air Max 270 G shoe is a sporty and stylish option that can be worn both on and off the course. It comes in three different colorways with each delivering a clean and crisp aesthetic. The shoe certainly appeals to a younger audience, but there is no mistaking that it is great for those looking for more comfort too. It does fit fairly snug so you may want to order a size up if you want a non-restrictive fit. It is extremely breathable and offers up plenty of ventilation thanks to the mesh covering around the upper, which is water-resistant and easy to clean.

Akin to many of the best spikeless golf shoes out there, the Air Max 270 delivers plenty of traction on the turf thanks to the rubber ridges and bumps on the sole of the shoe. We felt pretty stable in damp conditions and that also adds to the versatility of the shoe, which we felt could be worn in almost any situation, from the course to the shops.

Low profile not the best for wet courses

As Cole Haan are one of the lesser-known brands in the market, we've had many playing partners asking us what these shoes are when we've been wearing them out on the course. That's how visually stunning these shoes are, and if you're the type of player who likes to wear golf gear that's a little less well known. These are perhaps some of the best golf sneakers in the game, simply for their versatility and stunning aesthetics. We felt really comfortable wearing these both on and off the golf course and they also kept our feet both warm and dry thanks to their 100 percent waterproof construction.

Equally we think they are one of the best spikeless golf shoes in the game, offering up ample traction and support on wet ground, thanks to the many rubber lugs that line this shoe's sole. We also really loved how comfortable they were to wear with the padded and thick sole being a great addition and support to your feet during a long day on the golf course. The GrandPro AM comes in three color options, and all three look fantastic.

The spike design will put some off

The G/FORE G.112 shoes are a versatile addition to this list that we think you'll really enjoy wearing both on and off the golf course. They come with an innovative design that delivers a premium aesthetic thanks to high quality leather upper. That twins nicely with the raised and supportive midsole, to deliver a look and profile that we really enjoyed.

The highlight of this shoe was the comfort it offered, which is up there with many of the best golf shoes in the game. The padded interior wrapped around our feet nicely during our testing sessions, delivering comfort. The insoles come with the raised nubs that we've come to know and love in G/FORE golf shoes, and while they might feel a bit odd at first, they work very well to massage your feet during your round.

The grip on the G.112s was also good too. The traction offered by the spiked rubber sole worked really nicely in both dry and wet conditions. While we'd perhaps steer clear of wearing these on a really wet day on the course, opting instead for one of the best waterproof golf shoes, if you do find yourself caught in a downpour, you'll be reassured in the knowledge that these shoes are 100 percent waterproof too!

Style may not be to everyone's taste

We don't exaggerate when we say that these shoes can be used anywhere - on the course, at home, at the gym, off the course and so on and so forth. Arguably with the Charged phantom SL, Under Armour have created the perfect crossover shoe.

We enjoyed the sleek athletic style, with the upper really offering breathability and comfort all day. The Storm Flat Knit Collar around the ankle provides a locked-in feel while also being extremely comfortable.

We felt very stable even when swinging hard in the Charged Phantom SL however we should say that whilst the shoe performed really well in dry to damp conditions, we would recommend a spiked model if you play more golf in wetter conditions. Finally style wise we enjoyed the blue color we tested above, but there are three other colors to choose from as well, each of which really look great.

Style may not be to everyone's tastes

Puma have always been a front runner when pushing the boundaries to design trendy yet functional golf shoes and the GS-Fast, an update on their much talked about RS-G Golf Shoes, certainly continues that trend. Admittedly these shoes will not be everyone's cup of tea but they are a statement shoe that many will like.

Our testing procedures showed us that Puma put an awful lot of technology into these shoes, making them one of the most comfortable spikeless golf shoes on the market. The chunky sole provides exceptional cushioning, while the mesh sock-liner prevents the risk of blisters arising on your feet.

The GS-Fast comes with a wide rubber outsole that is littered with a ton of small rubber studs. That means these shoes are better used as a summer golf shoe but still performed very well in slightly soft autumnal conditions with their grippy outsole providing solid traction on the turf. They are also completely waterproof and are very easy to wipe down after your round.

Best to use anywhere

True Linkswear FS-01 Golf Shoe Review

Specifications

Sizes: 7-15
Waterproof: Water resistant
BOA Option: No
Colors: 6

Reasons to buy

+
Padded heel for added comfort
+
On and off-course styling
+
Made using recycled materials
+
Cushioned insole

Reasons to avoid

-
Outsole is not great in wet conditions
-
Not massively supportive around the ankle

The True Linkswear FS-01 golf shoe can be worn on and off the course, with the classic look oozing class and style. Ranked as one of the best casual golf shoes on the market, we think it won't look out of place in any environment and can be worn with any golf outfit and casual outfit alike.

So, how did it perform out on the course? Well, considering it is a low-profile silhouette it does have good support around the heel and extra padding around the Achilles. However, because of this profile, you do lose a little support here.

One thing that did impress us though is the overall feel of the product, which is soft to the touch and has the same pebbled finish that you'd expect of a genuine leather product. What's more, the upper is very easy to maintain and is really durable, even claiming to be scratchproof (so far, so good in our testing) allowing you to keep them in sparkling condition for much longer.

Not fully waterproof
-
Not as stable as some spikeless golf shoes

With a silhouette so similar to that of the Ultraboost running shoe, the golf version here can blend into pretty much any environment. We’ve worn them to work, to the gym and then straight to the golf course. Alongside the Cole Haan ZeroGrand OvertakeTrue Linkswear FS-01 and Air Jordan 1 Low G, they are the most versatile golf shoes we’ve ever worn.

The shoe uses a Primeknit mesh upper - which is breathable and water resistant - as well as the sock-like material around the tongue of the shoe. There is plenty of padding around the ankle and there have also been some reinforcements around the toe area. This, along with the softness and cushioning underfoot, makes the comfort of these shoes off the charts.

Although not fully waterproof, it is water resistant, the Ultraboost has incredible breathability so your feet won't feel overly hot wherever you are in these shoes.

May not deliver the same grip as other shoes on this list

The Air Jordan Low G Golf Shoes are built from genuine leather to deliver extreme comfort on the course. Their classic look pays tribute to the original Air Jordans, first released in the early 80s.

But these have been re-designed for golf and feature encapsulated air in the heel cushions that make every step a joy. While these shoes are designed for use in warmer conditions, they do also come with a 1 year waterproof warranty, which is a great addition as you can never predict when the heavens will open on the course. Now admittedly the grip and stability of these shoes can be beaten by pretty much any spiked model for example, but the plus point of these shoes is the versatility. They look like regular, casual sneakers and have the comfort to match.

How we test golf shoes

Our golf shoe testing methodology revolves around putting models to the test over a number of rounds and in different conditions. This is so we can gain a better idea of overall performance in terms of factors like grip comfort, grip, stability, waterproofing and how they actually look on the golf course. Each of the shoes listed above has been personally used by a member of the Golf Monthly team.

This is the best way of testing a golf shoe as using it in the real world over a number of weeks allows us to see how they perform when variables change like weather, ground conditions, different stances and lies, and so on.

We think this also gives us information on the little details as well like which brands come up small or large, which models start to rub a bit too much after 36 holes, which designs can be used off the golf course and for the drive home?  We are very comprehensive in our tests to the point where we will regularly attend product launches and meet with the manufacturer’s R&D experts to understand the new technology. That isn't to say manufacturers can buy a good review though, as all our reviews are made by golfers, for golfers.

How to choose golf shoes

Comfort

Once you know the right size to go for, comfort is the next factor to be aware of. If a shoe isn't comfortable, you aren't going to wear it so we recommend trying on different models before you buy.

When you are trying shoes on, listen for a 'whoosh' sound which should indicate air leaving the shoe which usually suggests a good fit. Walk around in the shoes too so you can feel any pinching and whether your feet are moving around inside them. A correctly fitted shoe should so neither of these things. This is important because if your feet slide around inside, or you get rubbing and blisters, you won't wear them again and they could damage your feet and performance.

Spiked or spikeless?

Next up is to decide between spiked and spikeless. There is a mix of styles above but you should know that they have pros and cons.

Spiked golf shoes offer better grip and stability but don't sit as low to the ground as spikeless models. Spikeless golf shoes offer off-course versatility but might not offer as much traction. Have a think about which factor is most important to you here.

As you have seen in this guide, most of the best casual golf shoes are spikeless, so check out our best spiked golf shoes guide for a comprehensive look at some spiked options.

Waterproofing

Waterproofing is always important in a good golf shoe. Us golfers are outside all day sometimes and that means the occasional bit of rain is inevitable, and your shoes need to be able to deal with this. Therefore always check if a model is waterproof.  Some shoes are 'water-resistant' where they will survive in a short shower but will struggle to keep the water out in significant rain.

Budget

Finally be aware of your budget because you can find a casual golf shoe at any price point.

FAQs

Can golf shoes be worn casually?

Absolutely yes. As you've seen in this guide, the styling of golf shoes has become significantly more casual in the last few years. Many we've listed here are styled on street shoes and the low profile outsole that provides plenty of grip on course isn't at all intrusive when walking on harder surfaces.

Why do I need to wear golf shoes?

Golf shoes are designed to provide ample grip whilst out on the golf course, as well as comfort and style. You don't want shoes which will be slipping all over the place, neither do you want shoes that will give you blisters
