Sharon bridge replacement expected to take two years

COURTESY OF MASSDOT

For years, a bridge in Sharon has been closed to traffic, forcing traffic into a wide detour around the closed road.

That's about to change - but it won't be done overnight.

After years of sitting idle, the Maskwonicut bridge in Sharon will be repaired in a prjoect not expected to be completed until the summer of 2024.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will replace the bridge on Maskwonicut Street over the Amtrak rails, a long-term project that will is scheduled to take more than two years.

Work is occurring from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  weekdays. It is expected to be complete by the summer of 2024.

Since the Maskwonicut bridge has been closed and a detour has been in place for several years, there will be no changes to current traffic patterns.

The following detours are in place:

Traffic travelling from the east side of the bridge: Take a left onto Route 27 (North Main Street), left onto Canton Street, left onto Richards Avenue.

Traffic travelling from the west side of the bridge: Take a right onto Richards Avenue, right onto Canton Street, and right onto Route 27 (North Main Street).

Signs, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place in the work area.

Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
