Doctor Who is airing the sixth and final episode of the Flux mini-series tonight (December 5) and you just know that all the already intense speculation about who will be the next leading Time Lord/Lady will only ramp up even further.

With Russell T Davies returning as showrunner to usher in a new Doctor's era, It's a Sin stars Olly Alexander, Lydia West and more recently Omari Douglas have all been linked to the lead role.

Speaking to the Press Association, Alexander has ruled himself out of the role, while stating that he believes Douglas is the perfect choice.

"Iā€™m definitely not going to be the Doctor but it's going to be so amazing, Russell's Doctor," he said.

"I mean, it was before, and it will be again, and it has been great. So I'm excited to watch the show because I'm a fan. [I'm] definitely backing Omari Douglas. I think the Doctor's quite queer anyway ā€“ that's my take on the character ā€“ and I think it would really make sense for a queer actor to take the role.

"I think it would bring something really great to the part and in the performance, I'd love to see that."

Olly first addressed the rumours through a pun-tastic statement from his manager a few months back, stating: "Even though Olly is often contacted by Cybermen, I'm afraid I have to exterminate this speculation.

"As nice as it is to see interest in this story regenerate, it just isn't true. As Ood as it might sound, Olly is focusing on his music, for the time being."
