Amazon says it plans solar farm in Georgia

BURKE COUNTY (AP) — Amazon plans to build a solar farm in east Georgia, its first in the state.

The company announced plans Wednesday for a 70 megawatt solar farm in Burke County. Burke County is located south of Augusta.

The Georgia location was one of eight Amazon announced, along with renewable energy projects in Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Arizona.

Together, they will add 1 gigawatt of power to the company profile. The projects will supply electricity to Amazon’s offices, its package sorting warehouses and data centers.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, a gigawatt is the equivalent to 364 utility-scale wind turbines or 110 million LEDs, or roughly 1.3 million horses, 2,000 Corvette Z06s or 9,090 Nissan Leafs.

Details about the Burke County project are few.
