From the Steelers Locker Room: Ben Roethlisberger Says He’s Taking Future ‘One Game, One Season at a Time’

PITTSBURGH — Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said he is focused on his team’s next game against the Minnesota Vikings, and declined to address rumors about his future after his team’s 20-19 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported over the weekend that Roethlisberger has told former teammates and some members of the Steelers organization that this season will be his last with the team.

He did not directly deny the report, but said that he has not “told everybody that.” Roethlisberger added that he is taking things one game and one season at a time and that he will address his future after the season.

“Honestly, we just got done with this game, I’m exhausted and we play in a couple hours, it feels like,” Roethlisberger said. “That’s my focus. My focus is on Minnesota and what we have to do to get ready. I’ll address any of that stuff after the season. I’ve always been a one-game at a time, one-season at a time person and I’m going to stay that way.”

Roethlisberger similarly declined to discuss his future during the 2020 season, before announcing that he would return on a re-worked deal this spring. Roethlisberger is set to become a free agent after the 2021 season, when his new contract with the Steelers will automatically void.

The 39-year-old had one of his best statistical performances of the 2021 season in Sunday’s win over the Ravens, throwing for 212 yards on 17 of 26 passing for one touchdown.
