Clearwater police: Man in critical condition following shooting

Detectives say they have not arrested the shooter yet.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Clearwater Police Department is investigating two unrelated shootings that happened within an hour of each other Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the first shooting occurred at 2:24 p.m. at La Salle Street and North Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. Officers say a man, later identified as 22-year-old Ivan Cobbs, Jr., was shot and ran one block away to Palm Bluff Street following the shooting.

The man was flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa with life-threatening injuries, according to a press release. He is still in critical condition, according to police. 

Detectives say the shooter has not been arrested at this time, but witnesses told them he is about 20 years old, 6 feet tall and thin. He was wearing blue denim shorts and a light-colored hoodie.

Police say officers were then called at 3:34 p.m. to the Creekside Apartments on Druid Road for a child who had suffered a gunshot wound. Officers say the child accidentally shot himself. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. 

Detectives say It's unclear how the 3-year-old boy had access to the gun.
