State police identify driver killed in wrong-way crash in Uxbridge

UXBRIDGE, Mass. — A 35-year-old man is dead following a wrong-way motor vehicle accident that happened on Route 146 in Uxbridge Saturday night.

The Massachusetts State Police told Boston 25 News troopers from the MSP-Millbury barracks were first alerted to the crash at approximately 9:40 p.m. Saturday. After arriving at the scene, troopers found two vehicles that collided.

The driver, Jonathan Marmol, 35, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, was determined dead at the scene of the crash. After further investigation, it was determined that Marmol, who was driving a 2004 Honda Accord, was traveling southbound down Rt. 146, when he crossed the median onto the northbound side of the highway before striking a 2018 Subaru Outback.

While troopers were investigating the crash, all northbound lanes were closed in Uxbridge for approximately three hours. Traffic was being diverted by Rhode Island State Police. MSP was also assisted by Mass DOT, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Uxbridge Fire and Police Department, and North Smithfield, Rhode Island Fire Department

After colliding, both vehicles were engulfed in flames as a result of the crash. The driver of the Subaru, a 62-year-old man from West Boylston, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The facts and circumstances of the crash, including why the Honda has crossed the median, remain under investigation by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. No further information is available at this time.
