HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Although Geneseo outshot Buffalo State 19-4 in the first period, Norrman was strong in goal to keep the game scoreless into the first intermission.
  • The first goal of the game didn't come until fewer than five minutes remained in the second period, as each team was stymied by multiple saves by the goaltenders.
  • Just past the halfway point in the second period, A.J. Marinelli (Amherst, NY/Lockport Regals) was denied on a breakaway opportunity by a strong save from the Knights' goalie.
  • After a Buffalo State penalty, Geneseo needed just nine seconds to capitalize for a power-play goal and the 1-0 lead.
  • Buffalo State beat the clock to equalize just before the end of the period. After Ford's initial shot was blocked by a Geneseo defender, the puck bounced out to Allison at the blue line, who blasted a slapshot into the left corner of the net with 5.1 seconds remaining.
  • Nearing the halfway point in the third period, Geneseo scored the game-winning goal. Tyson Gilmour scored the winner for the Knights after a period of sustained offensive zone possession.
  • Buffalo State pressed for another goal, and pulled Norrman for an extra attacker with two minutes remaining, but were unable to find the equalizer as the Knights held on.
