SOU moves to 9-1 with 60-49 win over Yotes

ASHLAND – A familiar storyline played out in the Southern Oregon women's basketball team's seventh consecutive win, a 60-49 handling of College of Idaho on Saturday afternoon at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

The Yotes became the fourth opponent in a row to finish below the 50-point mark against SOU (9-1), which is one of three teams still unbeaten through three Cascade Conference games. The latest diminutive total was the product of C of I's 30-percent accuracy from the field.

SOU forward Kami Walk produced her second double-double of the weekend and fifth of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

The Raiders had their own issues offensively but redshirt-freshman forward Mia Wilmot gave them a welcome boost off the bench, shooting 5-of-5 to score a season-high 10 points.

They failed to pull away early despite holding the Yotes to two points in the first quarter. C of I trimmed its deficit to 35-32 with six minutes left in the third when SOU made its move with nine unanswered points to end the quarter, sparked by back-to-back Walk buckets inside.

Allie Cannon and Jada Reed both scored 11 points for the Yotes (7-4 overall, 1-2 CCC), who never led a day after pulling out an overtime win at Oregon Tech.

Syd'Nee Fryer contributed nine points and four rebounds to SOU's cause. Brianna Phiakhamngon had seven points and five of SOU's 14 assists, while Danasia Allison added six points, two assists and two steals.

Phiakhamngon, a junior point guard, also directed an offense that committed only nine turnovers. She didn't account for any of them.

The Raiders have started 9-1 eight times in the last 10 years. They've won 13 of their last 14 regular-season games against C of I.

They're off until Dec. 17-18, when Bushnell and Corban are scheduled to be in Ashland for more CCC action.
