Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss have agreed on a new contract, the school announced Saturday.
No details on the length of the new deal or any salary increase for Kiffin were disclosed, though the Clarion-Ledger reported that one year has been added to Kiffin’s contract in keeping with Mississippi law regarding public employees. The former Alabama offensive coordinator and Tennessee, USC and Florida Atlantic head coach was previously under contract through 2024 at better than $4.5 million per season.
ESPN’s Chris Low reported the deal is in the range of $7.5 million per year.
“We are committed to winning championships at Ole Miss, and Coach Kiffin is the person to lead us to those heights,” Ole Miss athletics director Keith Carter said. “With his winning edge, offensive vision and recruiting prowess, he has quickly cemented our team among the best in the nation, and this is just the start. With major facility projects on the horizon, we are investing in this program like never before and look forward to building on the foundation that Coach Kiffin has established.”
Ole Miss is 10-2 this season, its first-ever 10-win regular season. The Rebels are expected to receive a bid to the Sugar Bowl on Sunday.
Kiffin’s name had been mentioned in connection with a number of openings or potential coaching openings, including LSU and Miami. The 46-year-old Kiffin is 76-41 in 10 seasons as a college head coach, including 15-7 at Ole Miss.
“We are extremely appreciative of Chancellor Glenn Boyce, Director of Athletics Keith Carter and the entire Ole Miss administration for their commitment and support of our football program,” Kiffin said. “Sustained success takes a commitment from everyone, and we are excited to continue the work to build a program that makes the entire Ole Miss community proud. I have a tremendous amount of gratitude for our fans, players, and staff. The future is bright! Hotty Toddy.”
Kiffin’s extension was announced on Twitter mere seconds after Alabama finished off a 41-24 victory over Georgia in the SEC championship game.
