Charleston Animal Society received Saturday a $50,000 check from Petco Love thanks to a story sent by Aldwin and Coraline Roman.

The Romans' story of how their dog changed their lives was one of 100 winners from across the country in 2021. Their story told about Coraline, who has autism, and her struggle with sleep for years. After the Roman family fostered a pup named Margo, Coraline had the reassurance needed to sleep through the night.

Charleston Animal Society has the chance to win an additional $25,000 through the same competition. The top five letters, voted by audiences, will get the chance to grab between $5-25,000.

All stories can be viewed online. Vote for your favorite and the shelter with the most votes by December 15 wins.
