TECUMSEH — A dance Saturday evening at Tecumseh High School was postponed because of a threat made against it.

Tecumseh officials decided to call off the “Snowflake Soiree” winter formal after being informed of the threat by Michigan State Police, a post on the school district’s Facebook page said.

The threat against the dance is under investigation, the post said. More information will be made available Monday, Dec. 6.

“The safety of our school community is always first and foremost in our efforts and this is a situation we feel warrants these actions,” the post said.

A tip about the threat was made through the OK2SAY app, the post said. Tips about threats reported through OK2SAY are automatically investigated by state police and sent to school and other local authorities.

OK2SAY is a state of Michigan student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees and schools, according to the OK2SAY website. It facilitates tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.

“Parents and students: this is the perfect example of how the OK2SAY app can work,” the Tecumseh schools Facebook post said. “Remember, any threat, small or big, please err on the side of caution and send the tip so it can be investigated properly.”

The dance has been rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 11.

School districts across Michigan have been hit with a wave of threats following the shooting Tuesday at Oxford High School in Oakland County that killed four students and wounded seven others. Several districts called off classes because of the threats.
