American Psycho (2000) Review

American Psycho (2000) is directed by Mary Harron (I Shot Andy Warhol (1996), The Notorious Bettie Page (2005), The Moth Diaries (2011)) on an estimated $7 million budget grossing $15 million at the box office. This movie is rated R for gore, s**uality, and many other demented reasons. This film is one hour and forty-two minutes of American Psycho as a crime drama and forgets about the horror genre? Read the ending of American Psycho explained here.

American Psycho is about Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale - The Dark Knight (2008), The Prestige (2006), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), The Machinist (2004)) who hides deadly intentions under the seemingly calm, stable, good looking persona on the outside. Bateman is wealthy, successful, and has a girlfriend that he uses to hide his inner self; he is a psychopathic serial killer on the inside.

I find the insanity, acting, directing, and soundtrack fantastic. American Psycho shows Patrick Bateman’s sanity holding by a thread. Not too far from some of the media postings on real-life Bale, I guess that is why he nailed this role. Just kidding, Bale is a great actor. The soundtrack, so many classics from the 80s, just pull you into the film. The actors in this film all play their roles well and so realistically. The gore in this film is more than in many horror films. When Bateman falls into complete insanity, all rules go out the door, and his inner demons are unleashed. What a movie. I will watch American Psycho periodically every few years because it is just one of those great movies.
