13-year-old charged with attempted murder after shots fired near Florida middle school

ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) — Two teenagers have been arrested after shots were fired near a middle school in Orange County.

The Orlando Police Department says School Resource Officers at Carver Middle School saw a large group of kids gathering at the 4400 block of Columbia Street on Thursday.

Officials believe the children heard a fight was going to happen, followed by officers hearing two gunshots causing the kids to begin running.

According to officers, no fight was believed to have taken place, but the commotion was caused by the shots being fired.

The Orlando Police Department says they detained two teenagers and a third individual who was later released.

A 13-year-old was arrested and facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault with a firearm within 1000 feet of a school and carrying a concealed firearm. The second boy, a 14-year-old, was charged with carrying a concealed firearm.

Authorities note the teenagers who were arrested did not attend Carver Middle, but a private Christian school.
