Hamilton's teammate, Valtteri Bottas, will start from P2 on Sunday, while Red Bull's Max Verstappen is in P3 after bumping the wall at the end of the session.
"I don't really understand what happened (on the final flying lap). I locked up a bit. P3 is disappointing, but today did show that the car is quick around here ... so we'll see what happens tomorrow," Verstappen said.
The 24-year-old Dutchman holds an eight-point lead over Hamilton for top spot in the driver standings with only two races remaining in the Formula 1 season.
