A TechPowerUp report indicates that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 12GB will not have a pricey Founders Edition variant from NVIDIA. Instead, the refreshed Turing card will be an AIB-exclusive, which could potentially help keep pricing under control.

NVIDIA recently updated their website listing for the GeForce RTX 2060 12GB. The listing no longer talks about a Founders Edition variant of the refreshed Turing card. Responding to a query by TechPowerUp, NVIDIA stated that "there will be no RTX 2060 12 GB Founders Edition, only custom designs."

The lack of a Founders Edition Card could be a good thing for gamers looking to get hold of the RTX 2060 refresh without an added price premium, and opens the door to cut-rate AIB parts like the erstwhile US$299 EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 KO

NVIDIA is relaunching the Turing-era GeForce RTX 2060 with extra VRAM and a few more CUDA cores, largely because of Ampere supply issues. As a piece of 12nm silicon, the GeForce RTX 2060 12GB won't add to capacity woes on Samsung's 8nm foundries. This means better availability and, if cryptocurrency miners and scalpers don't get there first, prices that more or less adhere to the MSRP.

The GeForce RTX 2060 launched at a US$349 price point, slightly higher than the GeForce RTX 3060. If the refresh hits a similar price point, it could raise an interesting quandary. The Ampere GeForce RTX 3060 is technically a good chunk faster, keeping pace with the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, and (officially) sells for more. Supply issues, however, mean that it's being sold in excess of US$900.

NVIDIA has yet to release concrete price details for the RTX 2060 refresh, but even if it were to approach the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti's US$399 official price point, it would be a good deal in today's topsy-turvy GPU market.
