Nation Ford’s Nas Berry looks to take a shot against York during their game Friday night.

YORK – The Nation Ford Falcons boys’ basketball team opened the second half of their game against the York Cougars on a 20-0 run leading to their second win on the season.

Nation Ford beat York handily 65-34 to improve to 2-3 overall on the season as the Falcons had three players score in double figures in the win. Nation Ford was led by Nas Berry with 18 points, as both Quadier Hand and Trevor Rayborn each added 10 points as well.

“We shared the ball really well,” said Falcons’ head coach Jared Adamson. “We did a good job on both ends of the floor.”

The game was close at the half as Nation Ford led 30-21 but really took control to open the second half. The Falcons opened the second half on a 20-0 run and never looked back as part of their fast start. Ryan Smith hit back-to-back 3-pointers for Nation Ford and Berry added another before York could catch their breath.

“We hit shots early in the second half,” Adamson said. “We wanted to set the tone.”

Nation Ford went from leading 30-21 to leading 41-21 in the first three and a half minutes of the third quarter. York was able to score in the final minute of the period, but by then the Falcons were up 50-24.

The fourth quarter was a lot like the third as Nation Ford controlled the pace and kept getting easy penetration in the lane for lay-ups.

The first half showed two evenly matched teams in the first quarter as Nation Ford went up by just four points after the period. However, in the second quarter, Berry started taking over for the Falcons and scored eight points to give Nation Ford a nine-point halftime lead.

Girls team pulls out second win on the season

The Nation Ford girls team also got their second win on the year and improved to 2-4 overall beating York 47-35.

Nation Ford was led by Camille Kerridge, who scored 29 points, but also got scoring from others in the game, which is something head coach Coretta Richmond is trying to get happen more for her Falcons’ team.

“We changed up a lot of things,” Richmond said. “All we can see now is growth from here.”

Besides Kerridge, Charli Nelson added nine points for the Falcons.

“Charli did a good job scoring,” Richmond said.

York opened the game and took advantage of their home court going up 12-6 after the first quarter. In the second, Nation Ford bounced back and was able to play more of a complete quarter enough to take a 20-16 lead in the half.

Not much happened for either team to open the third quarter, but eventually, the Falcons would start scoring again as Nelson scored seven of her nine points in the second half. That helped to push Nation Ford’s lead to 32-22 after three quarters and in the fourth, Kerridge scored 11 of her 29 to lead the Falcons.

Up next for the Nation Ford basketball teams is a home game against Catawba Ridge Tuesday, Dec. 7.
