Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux is playing on the last year of his current contract, and with his team struggling to win games, rumors of a trade involving the center are starting to gain traction. However, if the Flyers are thinking about finding a trade partner for the 33-year-old center, they are still going to need Giroux to waive his full no-move clause to ship him somewhere else.
Giroux recently shed light on this matter and offered a seemingly canned response that may or may not signify what his real thoughts are about potentially waiving his NMC, per Olivia Reiner of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“I’m not worried about that right now,” Giroux said. “I’m just worried about games coming up and we’re in a hole right now. Thinking about that stuff is not going to help the team get out of this. Still got a lot of confidence in this group. I really believe we win one here, we might win a few in a row here. Confidence is a big part of it right now.”
The Flyers have stumbled of late, having lost all of their last seven games. The more they lose, the more ideal it becomes for Giroux to ask his team to get him to a Stanley Cup contender as a rental.
Giroux, who signed an eight-year deal worth $66.2 million with the Flyers in 2013, has seven goals and 11 assists in 21 games played, thus far in the 2021-22 NHL season.
