Miguel A. Lorenzo facing assault, firearms charges following barricade and shooting in Cambridge, police say

A 31-year-old Malden man is facing assault and firearms charges following a standoff with police in Cambridge last month, officials said.

Miguel A. Lorenzo was arrested at his home Thursday on an outstanding warrant out of Middlesex Superior Court, Cambridge police said in a statement Friday.

Lorenzo was taken to Middlesex Superior Court Friday, where he was arraigned on two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of possession of a firearm without a license as an armed career criminal, one count of possession of ammunition without a license as an armed career criminal, one count of carrying a loaded firearm and one count of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, police said.

Assistant Clerk Magistrate Daniel Flaherty ordered Lorenzo to be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Dec. 7.

Cambridge police went to Sciarappa Street just after 2 a.m. on Nov. 19 for a report of gunshots. There, a man later identified as Lorenzo was seen entering a house, leading to an extended standoff with police, the statement said.

Officers tried to talk to Lorenzo, including the use of a loudspeaker, hoping to de-escalate the situation, police said. Other people were evacuated from the multi-floor residential building.

Shortly before 6:30 a.m., Lorenzo was arrested without incident. No one was injured, police said.

A loaded firearm was recovered from the bed of a truck parked outside the residence and additional ballistic evidence was recovered on the ground near the house, the statement said.

An investigation is ongoing.
