Middlesex County authorities have identified the victim of Thursday’s fatal stabbing in Somerville as 33-year-old Jalel Brown-Cross of Boston.
According to Marcela Dwork, spokesperson for District Attorney Marian Ryan, Somerville police were dispatched to the area of Munro Street at about 10:38 p.m. following multiple stabbing reports.
Officers located Brown-Cross and determined he had suffered multiple stabs wounds, and emergency medical personnel determined he had died at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Shakeel Bodden, 28, attacked and stabbed Brown-Cross with a knife inside a nearby residence. He was also injured in the struggle.
Following medical treatment at a nearby hospital, Bodden was arrested and charged with murder. He was arraigned in Somerville District Court Friday and ordered held without the right to bail pending a competency evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital.
The next hearing is set for December 22.
State Police detectives attached to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office and Somerville Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
