Mo. man injured after crash with ballast regulator at rail crossing

LIVINGSTON COUNTY —A Missouri man was injured in an accident just after 2p.m. Friday in Livingston County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2005 Jeep Liberty driven by Robert S. Sykes, 65, Hale, was southbound on CR 387. A Kershaw Ballast Regulator driven by Shane M. Edgar, 51, Marceline, Mo., was westbound on the railroad tracks.

The vehicles entered the rail crossing at the same time. The ballast  regulator struck the driver's side of the Jeep. The ballast operator was signaling and using a horn but the rail crossing was not activated, according to the MSHP.   

A private vehicle transported Sykes to Hedrick Medical Center. Edgar was not injured. Sykes was properly restrained, according to the MSHP.
