Sparks & Wiry Cries has announced the 2022 songSLAM Festival.

The showcase will kick off on Jan. 13, 2022 with “Songs of Identity. The virtual recital will feature performances by Bo Shimmin, Shana Oshiro, Hailey McAvoy, and Paulina Swierczek as they are accompanied by Natalie Sherer, Brian Bartoldus, Bethany Pietroniro, and Ania Vu.

Streaming Date: Jan. 13, 2022

Next up is “At the Crossroads,” which will take place at the Blue Building in New York City. The showcase will include several premieres including Reinaldo Moya’s “Ciudad perdida” with Maria Brea and Howard Watkins; Andrew Staniland’s “Ramadan 20 vs. COVID-19” with LaToya Lain, Jessica Care Moore, and Erika Switzer; John Glover’s “After Him” with Michael Kelly and Howard Watkins; Rachel DeVore’s “From the Woolworth Tower” bwith Brea, Martha Guth, Lain, and Myra Huang.

Performance Date: Jan. 14, 2022

The festival concludes with the NYC songSLAM which composer / performer teams will premiere new songs as they compete for cash. One of the winners will be selected for a paid commission for a future season.
