The “best whip” of Jordan Denen’s life came on Amarillo Sunset (5.11b) in the Red River Gorge. It was his first time on the route, and, like most routes at the Red, is horrifically pumpy.
The route is steep and scantily featured, a good recipe for clean falls, but not without risk. As Denen climbs a left-leaning sequence, the rope trails behind his right foot, only to be fixed–and then not–as he peels off, pump clock expired.
