After losing in the Pac-12 Championship Game, Oregon football will have to settle for the Alamo Bowl against a Big 12 opponent.

Oregon football hoped they’d lock in a trip to the Rose Bowl and a Pac-12 Championship on Friday night. However, their hopes were dashed as Utah ran away with a repeat victory.

The Ducks’ 2021 season isn’t over yet though. They can still look forward to a bowl game at the end of December.

Which bowl bid will Oregon receive?

Brett McMurphy of Action Network projected the Ducks in the Valero Alamo Bowl against the Oklahoma Sooners.

Since the Sooners aren’t involved in the Big 12 title game, it’s a fair bet to say they will be Oregon’s Big 12 opponent on Dec. 29.

It should be an interesting matchup since Lincoln Riley left Oklahoma to take over as the head coach at USC. Bob Stoops is coming out of retirement to coach the Sooners in the bowl game.

Oklahoma and Oregon have history. They have played seven times with Oklahoma holding a 6-1 edge in the series.

However, their last meeting in 2006 in Eugene went the Ducks’ way, though not without controversy. Oregon won 34-33 thanks in part to a controversial onside kick recovery.

That incident should come up plenty of times in the lead-up to their next meeting if the bowl selectors make it happen.

Oregon and Oklahoma will find out for sure if they’re Alamo Bowl-bound on Sunday.
