A cyclist found dead on a major wayside in Queensland’s north may have laid unnoticed for more than 12 hours, police believe.
The body of the 20-year-old man was discovered by a passing truck driver in a culvert beside the Bruce Highway at Tully shortly before midday on Friday.
Detectives say vision obtained from a service station at a nearby intersection shows the cyclist leaving the premises around 10.30pm the previous evening.
While uncertain, they think he may have been struck by a vehicle on his way home, which is just north of the fuel stop.
Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have noticed the man in the area at the time to contact them.
He was wearing blue jeans, a black long-sleeved shirt, grey sneakers, a blue baseball cap and a blue backpack.
Anyone with dashcam footage of the area between 10.30pm and 11.45am is also asked to contact police.
Meanwhile, police in Cooktown are appealing for help from witnesses to a rollover crash which claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl.
The Nissan sedan was heading east along Railway Avenue in East Cooktown when it left the road and overturned around 6pm on Friday.
Members of the public administered first aid but the girl died at the scene.
A 44-year-old man driving the vehicle was not physically injured.
