Providence celebrates the return of the Holiday Tree Lighting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- The City of Providence held their Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony downtown Friday night. The ceremony was presented by the City’s Department of Art, Culture, and Tourism. Local councilmembers, and residents of Providence gathered for the lighting after last years ceremony could not have a public gathering.

The Mayor was not there due to a prior family commitment.

The event started with at Trinity Repertory Company as carolers sang and made their way to City Hall.

After the Tree Lighting, the ceremony was moved to the BankNewport City Center downtown. The event kicked off with the Brown University Marching Band taking the ice for their opening performance. The spectators watched as Nancy Kerrigan hosted the event while former US Olympic Team Bronze Medalists Gracie Gold, Rhode Island’s Marissa Castelli and National Champion Max Aaron performed alongside international and national competitors Sean Rabbitt, Heidi Munger, Jun Hong Chen, Effie Chen & Jack Liu, Patrick Blackwell, and the 2019 Nations’ Cup Silver Medalists Ocean State Ice Theatre, as well as local stars from BV Skating and Mount Saint Charles Academy.
