We’ve sniffled our way through the trailer. We’ve seen the poster. We’ve perused the photos. And now, all that’s left, ahead of This Is Us‘ upcoming final season, is to stock up on tissues and wait for the premiere on Tuesday, Jan. 4 (NBC, 9/8c).
Oh wait, there’s one more thing. We’ve been thinking about all of the Pearson-related moments that we hope will unfold before the hit ensemble drama wraps for good, and we’re betting that maybe you are, too? Because in a show that hops around in time as easily as cars switch lanes on the freeway, the opportunities are endless.
With that in mind, we’re hoping to see several key moments play out ahead of that final fade to black. Some, like Rebecca and Miguel’s wedding, we’ve been waiting for for quite some time. Others, like getting a glimpse of Déja’s baby, are relatively new wishes. Still others, like a particular wish for Susan Kelechi Watson’s Beth, stem from something we loved the first time it came around. All of them will help soften the blow of saying a permanent good-bye to the Pearsons when the series finale comes around.

We’ve said it before, but we’d love to get a peek or two at the Year of Kate and Randall. Perhaps the Sex and the City revival could spark some memories for the siblings, who spent a lot of time watching the HBO series and nibbling on Hot Pockets in their shared grief in the aftermath of Jack’s death?
This Is Us loves a wedding… so why not show us the day that Rebecca and Miguel made their later-in-life union official?
We love — and miss! — Randall’s biological dad so much, we’ll take him in every single flashback we can get.
Look, if we had our way, all of the Pearsons would live happily ever after. But that’s not how life, or this show, plays out. So instead of keeping an ailing Rebecca (in the flash-forward) holding on until the series finale, we hope that she gets a fitting exit by midseason — which will give her family (and us) adequate time to reckon with her death and celebrate her life.
Nicky and Sally’s love story can’t be over just like that, can it? Sure, way back when, he stood her up on the night they were supposed to drive cross-country to California… but in the current-day storyline, Jack’s brother is spending significant amounts of time on the West Coast. Is it that far a leap to think that she might still be there? Or to think that she might be the person to whom he is wed in the flash-forward?
What, exactly, propels Randall into the type of fame that has The New Yorker writing a profile about him around the time of Kate’s second wedding? (That’s not a rhetorical question: We truly want to know!)
Since the show is so comfortable fast-forwarding into the future these days, how about we see what Kevin and Madison’s son and daughter are like when they’re adults? And while we’re on the topic…
… why not introduce us to Déja’s little one, whose fledgling existence was a hot topic in a previous flash-forward?
We love to watch Susan Kelechi Watson move — wouldn’t it be great to see Beth dance again, perhaps in the Season 6 follow-up to her backstory episode (which Watson co-wrote!)?
Much like Kevin’s explanation of death to Tess and Annie in Season 1 (“There’s no dying. There’s no you, or me, or them…it’s just us. And this sloppy, wild, colorful, magical thing that has no beginning, no end…that’s right here. I think it’s us.”), we’re holding out for a final season speech that will utterly ruin us with its simplicity, perfection and illumination of the toughest, most beautiful parts of life. No pressure, writers’ room!
We haven’t gotten anything of Rebecca and Miguel’s relationship after Jack died.. hope they do manage to give us some of that in the final season.
I’ve always wanted to see more of Miguel and Rebecca. I feel like we were promised a Miguel episode at one time but it never materialized? The only thing I can remember is Rebecca signing up for Facebook in the mid-2000s and searching for Miguel..which means that they lost contact at some point after Jack’s death then reconnected which turned into a romance somehow.
We’ve seen Kate and Toby’s son and daughter as adults, and a little bit of Randall’s three daughters, so I do want to see the twins as well.
This is something small but I’ve always wondered about. Way back in the “pool episode” a black woman approached Rebecca and gave her advice on raising a black child. Then at the end of the episode they showed some family photos on a table and one of them had this woman posing with the family which led us to believe she became a close family friend. Yet we never saw her again! Did that happen or am I totally misremembering it? I only saw that episode the one time it aired but it stuck with me.
And I too have always wanted to see the Rebecca/Miguel story. They promised we were going to get that at some point.

Mandy Moore’s real life pregnancy put the brakes in the Rebecca/Miguel story as it was too hard to hide her belly and with covid, she wasn’t on set much. You are right about the woman they met at the pool. She was dismissed when Jack commented they shouldn’t have let Randall drop karate, that woman was linked to. She got dropped with the karate. Another dropped story was the doctor with the horse who was supposed to deliver Kev’s twins and be his guardian doctor, but the writer said pregnancy in covid was different and nixed the story
The actress in “The Pool” is Ryan Michelle Bathe, SKB’s wife. She was Yvette, the mother of young Randall’s friend, who becomes friendly with Jack & Rebecca. She was in two more episodes.
I’d like to see what kind of relationship Toby has with his kids after the divorce. Also a glimpse of older Malik whether or not he and Deja are together. Maybe Tess college years.
Getting to see how Kevin’s growth over the series leads to he and Sophie finally getting their happy ending should absolutely be on this list.

I would like to see the show put the final coffin in Kevin & Sophie. They’ve gone round and round and round and sometimes, no matter how much you love & care for a person, it just. doesn’t. work. out.

Absolutely! Kevin had a heart-to-heart with Sophie’s Mother at her gravesite. He wanted to be a better man for her. Maybe with the twins, he finally becomes that man that she can count on. Also, the only other thing I want to see is Rebecca reunited with Jack. And, also, how Rebecca and Miguel reconnected.
Yes about the conversation Kevin had with Sophie’s mother, in which she said he wasn’t ready yet. He is ready now!! They better wind up together!!
Yes! This Is Us has been dropping clues about Kevin and Sophie for years. (much like Ted and Robin on HIMYM) They have to be endgame.

I want to see Jack come for Rebecca when she passes. I’m sorry but no way Rebecca and Miguel even came close to the signature couple of the show! Since it is the only way we will get a Jack and Rebecca reunion (best couple on the show IMO) please deliver!
