LG to Unleash VR and AR at CES 2022

CES 2022

THE DAILY SCOPE, 12/3/21: We are roughly a month out from CES 2022, where more than 1,700 companies plan to descend onto Las Vegas to showcase the latest products and innovations from around the tech industry. CES is not just a major event for the US market; rather, it is an international event that brings together a plethora of attendees and companies from around the globe.

Will the spread of the Omicron variant and new restrictions on international travel make it difficult for these international thought leaders to attend the event? We certainly hope not, because we’re hoping to meet with some of them when we fly to Las Vegas next month. We’ll know more within the next two weeks, per experts. However, those able to attend the event in person will be treated to some amazing displays, including LG, for example, which plans to use CES as a launchpad for dozens of its latest products and will use both virtual and augmented reality to connect physical visitors with LG’s virtual experience.

Last week, Twitter joined Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube in diving into the livestream shopping craze, which is already huge in China. Walmart kicked off its “Cyber Week” sales this past Sunday with a 30-minute livestream event on Twitter from Musician Jason Derulo, who showcased a variety of electronics products including the PlayStation 5. Research conducted by InMobi, a multinational mobile advertising company, suggests that livestream shopping is a way for brands to connect with Gen Zers by bringing together entertainment and commerce to elevate traditional retail experiences. Gen Z spends a significant amount of time engaging with influencers on apps such as Snap Chat, TikTok, and Instagram. In order to reach this consumer base, which will undoubtedly be the future generation of consumers, brands need to establish a presence on these non-traditional mediums of commerce.

Finally, some good news for Windows 11 users. Microsoft has done away with the irksome Windows 11 browser system, which forces users to specify what browser they prefer for different file types such as .html, .htm, and .pdf. Microsoft has been accused by others across the industry of putting obstacles in place of users looking to seamlessly switch browsers. In response, the company re-implemented the Windows 10 browser feature, which utilizes a single drop-down menu that allows users to switch from Microsoft Edge to Firefox or Google Chrome.
