This is not the type of year the Atlanta Falcons expected from Calvin Ridley, it is not even comparable to last season’s monster performance for numerous reasons.

Ridley, even when on the football field, has struggled. He just has not been the same player that he was last season. Whether or not that is due to the reasons he is taking a break from football is beyond anyone’s knowledge, only Calvin knows that.

With a disappointing season, Calvin Ridley could be on his way out of Atlanta

Let’s start by comparing Calvin Ridley’s stats with the Falcons last year compared to this year. Keep in mind that he obviously will not be playing close to the same amount of games this year compared to last, but the difference in numbers is still eye-catching.

Last season Ridley finished the year only missing one game and recorded 90 catches for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns, compared to this year in which he has caught 31 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns in a total of five games to this point.

Those are vastly different numbers even with the difference in games played.

This begs the question, what is next for Calvin Ridley and the Atlanta Falcons?

The first priority is for Ridley to take as much time he needs to get himself well, once that takes place then it is time for him to get back on the field to see if he can recapture his magic from 2020. None of us know when he will be able to get back on the field, it could be in a couple weeks or not until next season.

With all of this, it seems as if the Falcons will likely not extend him. They do not have the money and it is just too big of a chance to take at this point. He still has the fifth year on his rookie contract, so he is still a Falcon for next season barring anything unforeseen.

All in all, do not expect the Falcons to extend him, he has not been able to prove himself in the new offense. His days with the Atlanta Falcons are likely numbered at this point.
