KINGWOOD — Communities around Preston County are firing up the holiday spirit this weekend with several parades, tree lightings and lunches.
Terra Alta
Terra Alta’s Christmas parade will hit the streets at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3. The parade will travel on W.Va. 7 from Groves Hardware, and then turn onto Caldwell Street to finish at the park.
At the Community Building, Santa and Mrs. Claus will hand out treats to children following the parade. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served. Masks must be worn inside the building, and there will be one entrance and one exit for the line.
Bruceton Mills
On Saturday, Dec. 4, the lights will return to the streets of Bruceton Mills with the Lions Club’s popular light-up parade. This year’s theme is “Help Us Light Up the Night.”
Bands, tractors, floats, ATVs and even animals will be heavily adorned with twinkling lights to bring a glow to Bruceton’s streets.
The fourth edition of the parade will start at 6 p.m., but there will not be any of the Christmas Homecoming activities to accompany it. Everyone is encouraged to wear a mask on the floats.
Masontown
Lunch with Santa will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department fire hall. The event is free.
Newburg
The lighting of the Newburg Christmas tree will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, on Water Street by the Newburg United Methodist Church. The public is invited to bring memorial ornaments for the tree.
Aurora
The Christmas tree lighting will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Old Community Building in Aurora. There will be desserts, hot chocolate and carolers. The event is being hosted by the Aurora Pioneers 4-H Club.
Kingwood
Several events will take place Monday evening in Kingwood.
The Christmas parade and the Ugly Sweater Fun Run both will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, and follow the same route. Runners wearing ugly sweaters will take off first, followed by the traditional parade.
Following the parade, the Christmas tree lighting will take place in the lot at South Price and High streets. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to meet the kids.
The events are coordinated by Blueprint Communities Kingwood.
