Sami Maalik has been arrested on suspicion of attacking rapist Ali Shahzad in Hollyoaks — but questions remain over whether he's actually guilty.

Multiple members of the family were given reasons to want to silence Ali before the doctor stumbled into The Dog beaten and bruised, pointing fingers at the Maaliks for attacking him earlier this week.

Friday's (December 3) first-look episode opened with Ali demanding the Hollyoaks police get him "justice" by arresting his attacker, but cut out before he revealed their supposed identity.

Meanwhile, the family were dealing with in-fighting over who could have a motive to injure Ali. Misbah pointed out Ali's exact game plan was to get them to distrust one another.

However, when Sami suggested the attack was "probably" a random mugging, Misbah was alarmed that he would suggest there was still a chance it had been on purpose.

"If it wasn't [random], he'll tell the police one of you are responsible," Misbah pointed out. She would later slip out to confront Ali in his hospital room, but he left her shaken with a chilling comment about her family.

"You see me as the devil incarnate. Who's to say what they would do under your word?" Ali warned.

Following a pep talk from Yazz, Misbah reunited with the boys to explain to Shaq that she regretted everything about her time with Ali except for him.

"You are a part of this family and I don't want you to think any different," she assured him. "That man has tried hard enough to tear us apart and now I'm saying this has to stop."

Just as the family pulled back together, a detective arrived to announce Sami would be arrested on suspicion of attacking Ali.

"No, no, no, I didn't do it," he insisted. "You've got to believe me! Honestly!"

In the night's post-credits sequence, Misbah was shown making a late-night phone call to James Nightingale begging him to help Sami out of this legal nightmare. Will James agree?
