The Troy Elks Lodge #2805 organization holds several youth activities year-round. Among the various activities that the Elk Lodge holds includes a Soccer Shoot.
This year’s Soccer Shoot started on August 21 with a local competition. The Lodge had a group of 21 participants, and there were five divisions of competition in both the girls and boys groups, with medals awarded to the first, second and third place winners.
All first-place winners advanced to the district competition on September 4. The winners from the district competition went on to compete in Jefferson City at the state competition on October 9. Winners from the competition in Jefferson City would then compete at the Regional Shoot in Kansas.
This year the Troy Elks Lodge #2805 had three shooters that advanced to the state level and two that continued to the Regional Shoot competition in Kansas.
Mya Kelbel and Oliver Caputo-Brown both competed in the Regional Competition, placing first and second respectively.
Caputo-Brown is eight years old and has been playing soccer for around four years. He currently plays for the Flynn Drilling Drillers. He explained that he enjoyed the opportunity to travel and meet new friends and has plans to compete next year as well. He also has an interest in playing soccer as a Trojan in the future.
The Elks Lodge awards several scholarships locally as well as at district, state and national levels. Their organization’s focus is to foster healthy communities and to assist veterans and young members of those communities.
Those interested in getting involved in the Elks organization can request an application to join through a member, online on their website at elks.org, or through the local lodge via phone or email.
The Elks Lodge has a Hoop Shoot that will be Saturday, December 4 at nine in the morning at Troy Middle School. The Hoop Shoot will be a free throw contest with the opportunity to advance and play in a national championship, which will be held in Chicago.
