MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. — Motorists on southbound Interstate 15 through the Virgin River Gorge in Arizona are experiencing heavy delays Friday afternoon after a pileup crash slowed traffic to a crawl.
The crash involved six vehicles at approximately 10:40 a.m. MST near milepost 12. Trooper Tom Callister with the Arizona Department of Safety said the crash involved a wrong-way driver and a secondary collision occurred afterward.
Callister said traffic is now backed up “11 miles and growing” as of 1:30 p.m. He recommends drivers take Old Highway 91 through Utah as an alternate route.
Traffic was already expected to be heavier Friday as drivers head south for the PAC-12 championship game between University of Utah and Oregon State University.
