Columbus Crew re-signs goalkeeper Eloy Room on two-year deal with third-year option

Columbus Crew goalkeeper Eloy Room has allowed 70 goals in 61 games played, including two playoff appearances, and has made 163 saves with 16 clean sheets.

The Crew has secured their starting goalkeeper for the next few seasons.

Eloy Room signed a two-year contract with a third-year option, keeping him under team control through the 2024 season when Room would turn 35.

"We are thrilled that Eloy will be part of the Columbus Crew the next two seasons," said Crew president and general manager Tim Bezbatchenko. "Since joining us, Eloy has not only performed on the field, but he has also bought into the values of the Crew to become a veteran voice and leader in the locker room."

Since joining the Crew from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in July 2019, Room has been a steady presence in net for the Crew as the replacement to now Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen.

Numerous times, coach Caleb Porter has said the Crew believe they have the best goalkeeper in Major League Soccer. Room has allowed 70 goals in 61 games played, including two playoff appearances, and has made 163 saves with 16 clean sheets. He was a finalist for MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2020.

Goalkeeper Eloy Room has signed a two-year contract incluing a third-year option with the Columbus Crew, keeping him under team control through the 2024 season when Room would turn 35.

Room said after the conclusion of the 2021 season that he wanted to stay in Columbus and sign a new contract.

Room is the second player the Crew has re-signed this season. The club announced an extension of Lucas Zelarayan's contract on Thursday, and is expected to announce updates on the status of winger Pedro Santos and left back Milton Valenzuela still this offseason.

Room had a base salary of $425,004 in 2021 according to the MLS Players Association salary database.
