A Bedford woman is facing an abuse of corpse charge in connection with her mother’s death, police announced Friday.
Kimberly Heller, 54, was arrested Nov. 18, weeks after her mother was found dead in her home, investigators said.
Heller lived with her mother, police said, until her mother died in the days before Memorial Day in May. The mother died of natural causes, police said.
On Oct. 24, police said officers conducted a wellness check at the home at the request of family members who hadn’t seen or heard from the mother in months. No one was home at the time.
The following day, police said they went to the home again, but Heller wouldn’t let them in. Officers returned to the home later that day, executed a search warrant and discovered the body of the mother months after she died, police said.
Investigators said they learned that for months after the mother’s death, Social Security checks continued to be deposited into her bank account.
Heller is expected to be arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of abuse of a corpse on Jan. 6, 2022, police said.
