The Flyers got a vital part of their offense back in Kevin Hayes as he returned to the lineup on Wednesday. It wasn’t long until they lost another important piece to their roster shortly thereafter. After skating just under three minutes, Joel Farabee would leave the game and later be ruled out.

After losing an edge, Farabee crashed shoulder first into the boards. He was visibly shaken up and favoring said should. He would take another shift but was still laboring throughout it. After a stoppage in play, he left the ice for the locker room.

With a day off on Thursday, the Flyers returned to practice on Friday ahead of their weekend matchup with the Lightning. Farabee was not among those who took the ice. Alain Vigneault spoke afterwards with an update on the young forward.

"“Joel, upper body injury last game. I would give you a timeline but every time I’ve given you that timeline this year, I’ve been wrong. Medical is not an exact science, but I would say that he’s somewhere in the vicinity of week to week.”"

The news could’ve been much worse for Farabee but it is yet another blow to the Flyers forward depth. Connor Bunnaman and Max Willman were born recalled under emergency conditions, the latter is likely to play this time around as he was sent back down once Hayes returned.

There were a few other injury scares during the Thursday practice, but all other players appeared to be fine as they finished said practice. For Farabee, he had found himself on another hot streak. After just a single goal in 14 games, he had three goals in his last three games. So he was finishing his scoring touch again. He is now tied for the team lead in goals with seven. His fifth in points with 10.

A team that has consistently had trouble finding the back of the net now loses a player who had been able to do that in his most recent stretch. Morgan Frost was recently moved to wing when Hayes returned to the lineup. He will stay at wing and should remain with Hayes and Konecny. The team likes the way he has looked at the position.

Frost scored the only goal in the 4-1 loss to the Rangers. It was his first goal since the opening of his 2019-20 season, though he only played in two games last season before his shoulder injury. He had been playing well in Lehigh Valley and will hopefully bring another offensive spark to the lineup.

Patrick Brown skates, Derick Brassard still sidelined

Patrick Brown was originally only supposed to take part in the first bit of Flyers practice, but he would end up staying out of the whole thing. Vigneault said he was far ahead of where he expected him to be at this time. Brown still has a bit to go but there’s hope he will be able to help the team out soon during this upcoming stretch of games.

As for Derick Brassard, Vigneault still didn’t have much of an update on his return. He skated for about 15 minutes but there is no clear timing on his return. He tweaked something in his hips a few days ago.
