John Cena has been a busy man lately. With the wild success of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, his character got quite the spotlight. Peacemaker, the lovable oaf with an arsenal of weapons, was even given a show on HBO Max. As a live-action show produced and released entirely by HBO Max, it is sure to be one of many competing against Marvel’s Disney+ line-up. Cena himself loves the role of Peacemaker and has personally made multiple appearances in the last couple of months to advertise. It began with the teaser trailer released at DC Fandome. And just last week, he made a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con. Now, we have the official Peacemaker trailer released!
What Does This New Trailer Show Us for Peacemaker?
The official trailer for Peacemaker provides some nice insight into the show. Besides being longer, it also delves more into character relationships. The HBO Max series will indeed focus on Peacemaker and his ragtag group, but the trailer also shows that it’ll focus on his personal life and family. Vigilante, who was only shown momentarily in the teaser, has a much more involved role. He seems to be a close friend of Peacemaker, shown by how they muse about being contract killers. Vigilante advises Peacemaker that feelings and thoughts don’t have a place in their life.
More than anything, the official trailer shows us Peacemaker is a family man. He’s constantly seen looking for his father’s approval in the trailer, even when the old man is thrown into jail himself. He even defends his cantankerous dad when someone calls him a bad person. Further, he hesitates to kill a man and his family, even though his motto is to kill for the right reasons. According to input from writer and director James Gunn, this is something he’s excited to delve into with the series. A scene regarding Bloodsport’s family in the movie poked at this, and now we get the full story.
All that said, the official trailer still promises plenty of laughs and extraordinary action. To prove it, the trailer ends with him tossing a jerry-rigged tank shell grenade and screaming “EAT PEACE MOTHERF-” before a satisfying boom. The Peacemaker series will release on HBO Max on January 13, 2022. Are you excited for more John Cena, and more brazen slapstick humor? Let us know in the comments below!
