The Cloquet Area Fire District has placed Fire Chief Matthew Ashmore on administrative leave.
Fire Capt. Chad Vermeersch confirmed the chief was placed on administrative leave, but would not comment further.
The Cloquet Area Fire District Board is holding a special meeting Monday, Dec. 6 , to discuss the performance of Chief Ashmore. The meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Scanlon Community Center. To access the meeting online, visit bit.ly/31w6xvC .
Ashmore has been the district's chief since 2020, when he was appointed after former Chief Kevin Schroeder retired.
