Watch: Trail cameras capture cryptic fishers in action

Biologists with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife are working to conserve fishers (Pekania pennanti), a species state listed as sensitive. Fishers are hard to find in the wild, but checking DNA trap sites in southwest Oregon, the scientists captured footage of fishers on trail cameras and got some insights into their behavior. In the first video, a fisher sniffs a site where a rival one-eyed male visited the night before. In the second, a one-eyed male checks out the trap and scratches. In the third, a fisher scent marks and rubs its belly in the snow. In the fourth, a fisher pair inspect the trap and the trail camera.
